The Founder
The founder, Grandmaster Jonathan M. Abaya, Soke, Ph.D., who is also known as Jonathan Makiling, is a career professional in martial arts with four decades experience in various disciplines. He holds a 10th Degree Red Belt in Jendo and Traditional Arnis certified by many local and international associations and institutions of martial arts.
He is the founding chairman and President of International Jendo Federation and of one of the biggest council of masters and grandmasters of martial arts, the World Martial Arts Council of Elders. In 2002, he was inducted into the Biloxi City, Mississippi Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame for promoting Filipino Martial Arts. He received a lifetime membership from the International Grandmaster Society and conferred with a 10th Degree Red Belt Rank and the title of Honorable Grandmaster. He also received an International Instructor’s Recognition Certificate and a lifetime membership from the World Heads and Founders Society of International Styles. And in June 20 of 2004, he received his Ph.D. in Asian Martial Arts Science from the International Council for Higher Martial Arts Science Education of the World Organizer of Martial Arts after successfully passing the requirements, screening and examination of the panel headed by Grandmaster Prof. Mohammad I. Tianero, Ph.D. and Prof. Rey V. Diaz, Ph.D.
Grandmaster Abaya vigorously practice and teaches Jendo Martial Arts from 1973 up to the present. He has worked in the entertainment film industry as a trainer, stunt performer and fight-routine instructor and appeared as a martial arts performer in several television mini-series, talk shows and morning and noontime programs in the Philippines. Currently, he is serving the Integrated College of Physical Education and Sports’ School of Arnis Professionals as a regular Associate Professorial Lecturer and as part-time at the San Beda College, Department of Human Kinetics Development.
Grandmaster Abaya is a widely respected and recognized martial artist in the international martial arts community. Listed below are just some of his outstanding achievements in the field of martial arts and sports.
